前回は、中華タブレットの特徴やメリット・デメリットについて調べたわけだが、今回からは実際に中華タブレットを使っての検証をしていく。
今回試す中華タブレットは、「ramos W7」。
まずは、スペックと特徴をみてみよう。
このタブレットの特徴は、4.8インチという液晶サイズだ。端末の大きさは縦125×幅79×厚さ10mm、筆者のXperia acro（127×63×11.8mm）とさほど大きさは変わらない手のひらサイズのタブレットである。見た目は、タブレットというより、ちょっと大きめのスマートフォンといった印象だ。
CPUは600MHz、RAMは128MBと、OSはAndroid1.5とスペック的は2009年に発売された初期のAndroidスマートフォンHT-03Aに近く、スペックは1世代まえといったところだが、14999円という低価格が魅力だ。
OS 1.5だと、OS 2.xに比べると対応アプリが若干少ないが、主だったアプリは使える。
と、中華タブレットではOS 1.5ベースの端末は、かなり廉価な価格が魅力なわけだが、実際にどの程度使えるのか、早速チェックしてみよう。
■「あきばお～」の中華タブレットは、初期出荷で日本語対応
まず起動してみると、ホーム画面や設定メニューが既に日本語表示されていた。初期出荷で日本語表示に対応しているのか？ そこで本企画に協力していただいている「あきばお～」さんに確認してみたところ、「あきばお～」さんで取り扱っているAndroidタブレットは工場出荷時に独自に日本語表示に対応させているとのこと。これは「あきばお～」さんで購入するメリットの一つかもしれない。
取り扱っている店舗によっては日本語化されていないことも考えられるので、購入時に確認しておくとよいだろう。
■日本語入力をできるようにアプリをインストールしてみよう
日本語化されているといっても、それはアプリ名やメニューなどの表示のみだ。日本語を入力するにはやはりIMEアプリをインストールする必要がある。
この端末は、Androidマーケットが利用できなかったので、「設定」＞「ワイヤレス設定」から無線LANに接続してSimeji開発者のウェブサイトからAndroid OS 1.5対応Simejiのインストールを試みた。
Android OS 1.5対応のSimejiなのだが、APKファイル（プログラムファイル）をタップしても「Simejiはこの端末にインストールできません」との表示が出てしまう。
なぜだ？？？？
とりあえず、Simejiのインストールは中断。
そこで、Android OS 1.5対応の日本語IMEアプリOpenWnnフリック入力対応版をインストールしてみることにした。
すると、こちらは問題なく「インストールが完了しました」とインストールできた。
Android OS 1.5対応版Simejiがインストールできなかった原因は不明だが、これで日本語入力もバッチリできるようになった。
■サードパーティーのマーケットから野良アプリをダウンロード
ramos W7は、Androidマーケットのアプリが本体にインストールされているのだが、なぜか、起動するとアプリ自体がエラーを多発してマーケットを閲覧できない。
これには、少々困った。
この状態でアプリをインストールするには、Androidマーケット以外からのアプリをダウンロードするか、microSD経由でアプリをインストールするしかなさそうだ。
こうしたときに便利なのが、タブレット対応アプリが数多く登録されているサードパーティーのAndroidマーケット、Camangi Marketだ。
さっそく、ここからアプリをダウンロードしてみた。無線LANでネット接続すれば、ramos W7にアプリをインストールできる。
効率よくインストールするコツは、１つずつネットでインストールするのではなく、PCでAPKファイルを一旦ダウンロードして、まとめてSDカードに保存し、端末にインストールする方法だ。これから、サクッとたくさんのアプリを一気にインストールできる。
また、SDカードにAPKファイルを保存しておけば、端末でアプリをアンインストールしても、すぐにSDカードから復活させられるので安心だ。
■ramos W7でインターネットを使ってみよう
SNSだが、TwitterのOS 1.5対応アプリが、Camangi Marketにはなかった。Facebookは公式アプリが1.5に対応しているものの、起動するとロゴが表示されるのみで、利用できなかった。
アプリでは残念ながら利用できなかったが、ブラウザからは、モバイル版のTwitter、Facebookともにスムーズに表示された。
これならTwitterのタイムラインやFacebookのニュースフィードを常時表示させておけば、気軽にソーシャルを楽しむマシンとして使えそうだ。
■YouTubeを閲覧 動画ビューアーとしての活用法
次に動画はどうだろうか？YouTubeを閲覧して動画ビューアーとして活用できるかチェックしてみた。
YouTubeアプリはプリインストールされていて、動画の検索やお気に入り登録をすることができる。再生はスムーズで快適なYouTube生活が楽しめる。
ビデオプレイヤーでは800×450、48MBのMP4ファイルを再生したところ快適に動画を見ることができた。720PのMPEGファイルは再生できなかったが、通常の動画再生を楽しむには不足はないと言えるだろう。
■お楽しみ！ゲームで遊んでみる
中華タブレットの期待の一つがゲームだ。そこで、ダウンロードしたゲームを実際にプレイしてみよう。
まずは、定番のカジュアル系ゲームを試してみよう。
ブラックジャックなどのトランプゲームやカジュアルゲームだが、遊べるものもあるが、タッチ操作が引っかかったり、強制終了したりするものが多かった。
また、OS 1.5対応のアクション系ゲームも、ramos W7では意外と起動しないアプリも多かった。特にタッチパネルや加速度センサーに依存するアクション系のゲームなどは、スムーズな反応とは言いがたいものも多い。
これはOS1.5環境というより、ramos W7の個体性能のような印象だ。
■OS 1.5でも、端末による？
さて、ここまで、4.8インチというかなり変わり種な中華タブレットramos W7を試してみたが、小型軽量なだけに、ハードウェア的な課題も多そうだ。
メリットは、
○：日本語対応：売られている店舗・機種にもよるが、あきばお～で購入したramos W7は日本語対応されていてGood。
○：インターネット；SNSはアプリではなく、ブラウザから利用すればほぼ問題ナシ。
◎：動画再生：You Tubeアプリもプリインされていてちゃんと動作するし、ビデオプレイヤーの動作も快適。
逆にデメリットは、
△：Androidマーケット：エラー発生率が高いので、アプリインストールはサードパーティーマーケットでの代用が必要。
×：ゲーム：Android1.5のためか、強制終了が多く、動作もカクカクなアプリが多い。
ramos W7は、Androidマーケットからアプリをインストールして活用することができなかった反面、インターネット端末としては、ブラウザでTwitterやFacebookといったSNSが楽しめるほか、Youtubeやビデオプレイヤーで動画視聴は問題なくできる。
今回のramos W7は、4.8インチというトリッキーなサイズや、Androidマーケットが利用できないことなど、初回としての機種選択に問題があったのかもしれない。
とはいえ、価格的にも魅力の大きいAndroid1.5端末については、通常液晶タイプの端末でのリベンジ検証もしてみたいと思う。
次回だが、これぞタブレットという、10インチクラスの大型液晶でAndroid OS 2.1搭載した中華タブレットを検証するので期待してほしい。
